Passing through New Zealand

6 am after flying to Auckland from Houston.

After some flight changes, we headed to Sydney from Auckland via Queenstown...

...which meant flying over the Southern Alps and landing in between some really big mountains.

Pre-Conference workout and breakfast.

Registration... the kiosk printed out my badge on-site.

The International Congress on Math Education is the largest math education conference in the world. ICME-15 had 2300+ attendees from 97 countries!

A didgeridoo exhibition and a lesson about Aboriginal culture. There are over 800 Aboriginal tribes in Australia, each with their own traditional language.

The Rocks Historical Walking Tour & Another (accidental) Sydney Walkabout

We got to the tour a little early, so we stopped in to watch some candy being made.

We learned a lot about Sydney's history, according to Jon.

Including Brutalist architecture,

Some very old houses,

Quite a few famous convicts,

and their handiwork - sandstone blocks created with pickaxes and mortar made with shells from the beaches.
